It’s All Start with a Pill
CapStar Flea Treatment is an oral pill that kills adult fleas that are present on your pet.
This is an easy way to manage the flea problem you may be dealing with, without having to worry about topical treatments or handling anything chemical.
It is not intended to be used as a preventative, but if you’re dealing with a bad flea problem, it’s a great way to get a leg up on getting it under control.
Age requirements of the pet
CapStar Flea Treatment (Blue) can be used on puppies as young as 4 weeks of age which is a benefit when other topical treatments can’t be used under 7 or 8 weeks. For bad infestations, you can give your dog or puppy up to one pill per day but stop giving it to them once the fleas are dead. This product is for use on dogs and puppies that weigh 2-25 pounds and can even be used on pregnant dogs.
Things to watch out for
There are a lot of listed side effect possibilities with Capstar but you should understand that these potential side effects are possibilities not probabilities. Medication of any kind for your pet can result in a reaction if the dog is unknowingly allergic. If you notice your dog exhibiting any of the following you should contact your veterinarian right away for further help.
- decreased appetite
- Lack of coordination
You may notice your dog or puppy scratching more after you give them a Capstar Flea treatment (Blue) but this is only temporary and is a result of the fleas that are on your pet, dying. It’s almost never a reaction to the medicine itself unless it doesn’t seem to get better or it gets very severe. In those cases, give your veterinarian a call for further guidance.
What does it kill/repel?
Capstar will kill the adult fleas that are present on your dog or puppy. It does not kill the eggs or larvae and is not intended to be used as a repellant. It is best used in combination with an excellent regular flea treatment/preventative.
Application method and instructions
Capstar Flea Treatment (Blue) is an oral tablet that you give to your dog no more than one time per day while you are working to get rid of the fleas on them and in your home. The best way to give them the treatment is to feed them the tablet directly, but not all dogs will take pills and chew them up so easily.
If your dog needs a bit of encouragement, one of the best ways to get them to take pills is to hide the pill in a spoon of peanut butter or some other treat they love and they will take it easily. Make sure that you are right there on hand to ensure that they have actually ingested and swallowed the pill.
Speed of Results
You can expect Capstar Flea Treatment (Blue) to start working and showing results in a little as 30 minutes after you give it to them. Wait a full 24 hours before giving them another pill to a) ensure that there is no allergic reaction to the medication and also to see how many, if any, fleas are left on your pet before you give them another pill.
For bad infestations, it may take a few doses to get rid of all of the adult fleas off of your pet. You may want to use a flea shampoo or spray (on puppies and dogs 7-8 weeks and older) that kills the eggs since eggs can still be present on the dog’s fur even after the adults are killed or use a spot treatment that kills eggs and larvae too.
The active ingredient in Capstar Flea Treatment (Blue) is Nitenpyram.
It is used in many types of animals to kill parasites and poses no risk to the animal unless there is an unusual allergic reaction.
